MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) A Proton-M launch vehicle, which is to put telecommunication satellite Yamal-601 into orbit, has been delivered to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the Khrunichev Space Center said on Wednesday.

"The Proton-M launch vehicle designed to launch Yamal-601 spacecraft in the interests of Gazprom Space Systems was delivered from the Khrunichev Center's space rocket plant in Moscow to the Baikonur cosmodrome today, on April 24," the center said in its statement.

Proton-M is a heavy-lift launch vehicle. The first Proton-M rocket was launched in 2001.

Yamal-601, constructed by Franco-Italian Thales Alenia Space company at Gazprom Space Systems' request, is scheduled to be launched into orbit from the Baikonur cosmodrome atop Proton-M carrier on May 29 at 20:42 Moscow time (17:42 GMT), a source in space industry told Sputnik.

Yamal-601 is designed to replace the Yamal-202 satellite currently in orbit. Its service area will be the European part of Russia, including the Kaliningrad Region, the Urals, and Western Siberia. It will operate in C- and Ku-bands, covering the visible part of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, the middle East and part of Southeast Asia and providing services to the corporate sector, regional administrations, small businesses and individuals.

The satellite has the greatest capacity of all the satellites of the Russian orbital group, that of 30 gigabit per second.
