WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) The United States is prepared to work with Ukraine's future president Volodymyr Zelenskiy and praised the country's presidential elections as peaceful and competitive, US Department of State spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement on Monday.
"We look forward to working with President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy to advance our two nations' shared goal of a secure, prosperous, democratic and free Ukraine," Ortagus said. "The United States maintains steadfast support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its international borders and will continue to stand with Ukraine as it undertakes essential reforms."
Earlier on Monday, Ukraine's Central Election Commission said after counting 99 percent of the ballots that said Zelenskiy is winning the presidential race with a record 73.21 percent. Zelensiy competed against incumbent President Petro Poroshenko in the election runoff held on Sunday.
Ortagus said the United States congratulates Zelenskiy on his victory and also the Ukrainian people on "holding elections that reflect Ukraine's vibrant democracy five years after the 2014 Revolution of Dignity and after five years of unrelenting Russian aggression."
The spokesperson noted the elections were peaceful, competitive and the outcome represented the will of the people.

Although the Ukrainian Central Election Commission has yet to confirm the election results, Poroshenko already conceded to Zelenskiy.
Poroshenko said during a rally on Monday that he planned to be reelected as Ukraine's leader in the next presidential election.
