UN Chief Travels to China Wednesday to Attend Second Belt and Road Forum - Spokesperson

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Beijing this week to participate in the Second Belt and Road Forum on international cooperation and will hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officils, United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said during a press briefing on Monday

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Beijing this week to participate in the Second Belt and Road Forum on international cooperation and will hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officils, United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said during a press briefing on Monday.

"The Secretary-General will depart New York on Wednesday, 24th of April, to travel to Beijing in China to take part in a Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation," Dujarric told reporters. "While in Beijing, the Secretary-General is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping, the Premiere of the State Council Li Kieqiang, and State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi."

Dujarric pointed out that Guterres will also meet with a number of world leaders and senior officials who are attending the Second Belt and Road Forum.

The Belt and Road initiative, which was first announced by Xi in 2013, seeks to bring infrastructure development across Asia, Europe, Russia and the middle East.
