Terrorists continue to use social media to carry out their activities: NACTA

The report stated that the NACTA and other departments have not been able to curb wrong use of social media by terrorists to carry out their activities.

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 22nd April, 2019) The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has in its report on Sunday revealed that the terrorists use social media to make contacts.

The report stated that the terrorists continue to use Afghan sim cards.

“Blocking 90 million sim cards, 100 websites and 3000 social media accounts remains insufficient,” the report said.

NACTA, while questions upon the performance of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), asserted that checking internet contacts is extremely difficult.

The report stated that the NACTA and other departments have not been able to curb wrong use of social media by terrorists to carry out their activities.

The report further declared that there are loopholes in the law and amendments are needed in the Electronic Crimes Act as the law has failed to stop cyber attacks on national security infrastructure.

NACTA demanded that clauses should be added in this Act regarding the defence of these cyber attacks.

The authority further demanded to establish a Cyber Surveillance Unit in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).

Meanwhile, the government has planned to set up a joint authority to address the issues of cyber crimes in the country.

A task force has been formed in this regard while PTA and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been working within their orbits to control cyber crimes.
