Sri Lankan Prime Minister Condemns Sunday's Attacks On Churches, Hotels

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st April, 2019) Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he strongly condemns Sunday's attacks on churches and hotels in the country.

A total of six blasts took place on Sunday in Sri Lanka, hitting three churches and three hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities. news 1st local tv channel reported earlier that the attacks claimed lives of as many as 160 people, while 360 more were wounded and hospitalized. The country's government is holding an emergency meeting on the incident.

"I strongly condemn the cowardly attacks on our people today. I call upon all Sri Lankans during this tragic time to remain united and strong. Please avoid propagating unverified reports and speculation. The government is taking immediate steps to contain this situation," the prime minister wrote on Twitter.

SriLankan Airlines company said that enhanced security measures were introduced in Colombo International Airport after the attacks. Moreover, according to Sri Lankan Ministry of education, all schools in the country will be closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the blast series.

Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka told Sputnik earlier in the day that no Russian citizens were killed or injured in the explosions.
