Pakistan condemns Sri Lanka blasts

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 21st April, 2019) Pakistan has condemned the deadly blasts in Sri Lanka.

Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal in a tweet wrote Pakistan condemns explosions and terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka at Churches and Hotels that have led to numerous casualties and immense loss.

The people and Government of Pakistan stand by people and Government of Sri Lanka at this moment of tragedy and against terror, he added.

Over 50 people were killed Sunday in a string of blasts at hotels and churches in Sri Lanka as worshippers attended Easter services.

A total of six blasts reportedly took place on Sunday in Sri Lanka, hitting three churches and three hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities.

Media reports suggest that the blasts claimed lives of over 50 people, while more than 280 people were injured and hospitalized.

The explosions hit three high-end hotels in the capital, where a church was also targeted. Two additional churches were hit, one near Colombo and the other in the east of the country, police said.

The nature of the explosions was not immediately clear.

The first explosions were reported at St Anthony's Church in Colombo and St Sebastian's Church at Katuwapitiya in the town of Negombo.

Soon after the initial reports, four other blasts were confirmed by the police. Three of those were at hotels, while another was reported from a church in the town of Batticaloa.

In Colombo, the blasts hit the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, the Shangrila and the Kingsbury.

At least one of the victims was killed in Colombo's Cinnamon Grand Hotel, near the prime minister's official residence, where the blast ripped through a restaurant.
