North Ireland Deputy Chief Constable Calls Attack in Londonderry 'Orchestrated'

Deputy Chief Constable on Northern Ireland Stephen Martin said on Friday that the terror attack in the city of Londonderry in Northern Ireland, as a result of which freelance journalist Lyra McKee died was 'orchestrated

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th April, 2019) Deputy Chief Constable on Northern Ireland Stephen Martin said on Friday that the terror attack in the city of Londonderry in Northern Ireland, as a result of which freelance journalist Lyra McKee died was 'orchestrated.'

On Thursday night, the police said that one woman was killed after shots were fired and gasoline bombs were thrown in Londonderry, and added that it was treating the shooting as a terrorist incident, most likely carried out by the Irish Republican Army (New IRA) paramilitary organization.

"Regretfully, people, such as I described earlier [who carry out murderous attacks] ... goaded and orchestrated young people to engage in disorder," Martin said.

The New IRA is a nationalist group protesting the 1998 Good Friday Agreement that put an end to the nearly 30-year period of violence and terrorist attacks in Northern Ireland. Over the past few years, the New IRA has carried out several terrorist attacks in the region. In particular, on February 22, 2017, its militants attempted to blow up a police car in Londonderry.
