MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th April, 2019) The Metropolitan Police said Tuesday they have detained 113 people during a protest against environmental pollution that began on Monday evening in central London.

"As of 0601hrs [05.01 GMT] on Tuesday, 16 April there have been 113 arrests in total, the majority of which are for breach of Section 14 Notice of the Public Order Act 1986 and obstruction of the highway. All those arrested are aged 18 or above," the police said in a statement.

The indicated figure includes five people detained on Monday on suspicion of committing a criminal offense, the police specified.

According to local media reports, thousands of protesters blocked traffic on several highways in London during rush hours on Monday and damaged the Royal Dutch Shell's headquarters building.

The protest was organized by the environmental organization Extinction Rebellion, which previously set up a similar action during a UK parliament session in early April. Then, 12 people were detained.
