PPP Moves NAB Against Khattak Over BRT Corruption

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News / Online - 11th April, 2019) Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Thursday moved the National Accountability Court (NAB) against former KP chief minister Pervaiz Khattak for his alleged involvement in corruption and undue delay in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.The PPP leaders Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Faisal Karim Kundi, Chaudhry Manzoor Hussain and others filed an application with the anti-corruption watchdog, requesting the authority to file a reference against the Defence Minister and former KP chief minister.

The applicants requested the anti-corruption watchdog to file a reference against the corrupt elements under its Article-18.The applicants, in their objection, said later increase in the cost of the project is a violation of the law and crime under Article-9. They requested the NAB to investigate the matter under its Article-18 and expose black sheep involved in the project.They said the KP government has been failed to complete the project in time.

The project was supposed to complete within six months with estimated cost Rs39 billion which has been doubled now, but still the project could not be completed.The PPP blames in the application that former chief minister Pervez Khattak is allegedly involved in the corruption, requesting NAB to immediately begin investigation into the matter.Talking to media after submitting application in the NAB Headerquarters, PPP leader Humayun Khan said the NAB chief has assured that strict action would be taken against the people found involved in corruption. He said the PTI former government invested the entire development budget of the province on a single project. More concerning is that despite that the project could not be completed.He said the residents of Peshawar are irked from dust, pollution and traffic jam due to the delay in the completion of the BRT.
