French President Emmanuel Macron will hold on Friday meetings with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his rival in the 2019 presidential election Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Elysee Palace said on Wednesday
PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th April, 2019) French President Emmanuel Macron will hold on Friday meetings with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his rival in the 2019 presidential election Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Elysee Palace said on Wednesday.Media reports about these meetings emerged on Tuesday, while Oleh Medvedev, a spokesman for Poroshenko's election headquarters, said on Wednesday at a briefing that Poroshenko as well as Zelenskiy would meet with Macron on Friday.
"The meetings will be held on Friday. The president will meet with Zelenskiy at 3 p.m. [local time, 13:00 GMT] and at around 6 p.m. he will meet with Poroshenko," a spokesperson for the French presidential office said.
The spokesperson could not specify as to whether any of these meetings would be open for journalists.
The first round of the Ukrainian presidential election was held on March 31 and resulted in none of the candidates gaining the absolute majority needed to win the race. Zelenskiy led with 30.24 percent of the vote, while Poroshenko came in second with 15.95 percent.
