A gas explosion killed at least one individual and injured 16 others in the US state of North Carolina, Durham Police Department spokesperson Wil Glenn told reporters on Wednesday
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th April, 2019) A gas explosion killed at least one individual and injured 16 others in the US state of North Carolina, Durham Police Department spokesperson Wil Glenn told reporters on Wednesday."A gas leak was caused by a contractor, who was boring under the sidewalk. He hit a two-inch gas line, which caused an explosion and also a partial building collapse," Glenn said. "At this time we have one fatality confirmed. We also have one firefighter who was seriously injured. We have 15 individuals transported [to hospitals] at this time."
The explosion occurred at around 10:27 a.m. local time, according to Glenn's preliminary statement.
The Durham Police Department is asking people to avoid the city's downtown area as first responders continue to work the scene.
