UN Security Council To Address Libya On Wednesday - Diplomats

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th April, 2019) The United Nations Security Council will hold a closed meeting on the situation in Libya on Wednesday, the German Mission to the United Nations said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Germany has called for a UNSC briefing and closed consultations on Libya at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday," the mission said via Twitter. Germany currently holds the Security Council's rotating monthly presidency.

UN Special Representative to Libya and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame will brief the council on the situation in the country via video conference.

The Libyan National Army of Marshal Khalifa Haftar has since last weekend been laying siege to the capital, controlled by the UN-backed Government of National Accord, after earlier capturing cities to the west and south of Tripoli.
