Libyan Health Facilities Report 47 Deaths in Tripoli Clashes - WHO

GENEVA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th April, 2019) Libyan medical facilities reported 47 deaths in recent days amid fighting for the capital of Tripoli, the World Health Organization's spokesman, Tarik Jasarevic, said Tuesday.

Most of those killed were troops but there were also nine civilians, including two doctors, among the casualties, while 181 others were injured, he told reporters in Geneva.

Jasarevic said the health organization feared that a drawn-out battle for densely-populated Tripoli would disrupt the flow of supplies to local medical facilities.

The Libyan National Army of Marshal Khalifa Haftar has been laying siege to the capital controlled by the UN-backed Government of National Accord since last weekend after capturing cities to the west and south of Tripoli.
