Turkey's Ruling Party to Demand to Hold Repeat Elections of Istanbul Mayor - Deputy Head

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party will demand that the Central Election Commission (CEC) hold repeat elections of Istanbul mayor, citing numerous violations during the March 31 elections, deputy head of the party Ali Ihsan Yavuz said Tuesday

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th April, 2019) Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party will demand that the Central Election Commission (CEC) hold repeat elections of Istanbul mayor, citing numerous violations during the March 31 elections, deputy head of the party Ali Ihsan Yavuz said Tuesday.

Earlier, the party appealed the preliminary results of the mayoral election, which is won by candidate of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Ekrem Imamoglu. The CEC is conducting a recount of votes.

"We are going to file a demand for repeat elections in Istanbul. This is not just about violations and mistakes, but about organized interference. We will go all the way and use all legal methods. After that, many investigations will be launched. Those involved in violations will be held accountable before the law. However, the CEC has the final say," Yavuz told reporters.
