Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Tuesdaydemanded the Federal and provincial governments to allocate special chunkof funds in coming fiscal budget 2019-20 to boost furniture exports besidesgiving the status of a full-fledged industry and provision of raw materialat economical rates

(Pakistan Point News / Online - 09th April, 2019) Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Tuesdaydemanded the Federal and provincial governments to allocate special chunkof funds in coming fiscal budget 2019-20 to boost furniture exports besidesgiving the status of a full-fledged industry and provision of raw materialat economical rates.Chief Executive of PFC Mian Kashif Ashfaq expressed these views whilechairing a meeting of board of directors here today.

He said the localfurniture manufacturers are facing challenges due to heavy imports offurniture. He said Chinese furniture has also hit the local industry;resultantly, the sales of locally manufactured household furniture havegone down by reasonable percent. Pressure on the domestic industry hasimmensely increased as other countries like Thailand and Korea have startedexporting extensively to Pakistan.He further said it is the responsibility of the government to patronize thelocal industry by discouraging import of furniture items. Rather, he said,the government should announce a package of incentives to localmanufacturers so that they could enhance the volume of their export itemsto gain their significant share in international market.
