Violence against women increasing: Report

One-third of women in Punjab face some form of violence from age 15 to 64.

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 8th April 2019) One-third of women in Punjab face some form of violence from age 15 to 64.

This has been claimed in a survey conducted by the United National Population Fund.

UK’s Department for International Development and Bureau of Statistics and Punjab Commission on the Status of Women funded the survey.

As many as 32,000 women from all 36 districts of the province were approached for the survey.

A statement issued by surveyors stated that the survey highlighted the need for the efforts required to bring change and end violence in society. It was hoped that data will help the government and different social organizations to work with mutual cooperation to bring improvement in the field.

Punjab Commission on Status of Women chairperson said the cases of disabled women in the society were even horrible. Women with disabilities, she added, faced 10 percent higher cases of violence as compared to others. The women aged from 15 to 64 faced violence, the report added.
