Afghanistan's Security Service Detained 16 IS Members, Including Recruiters - Reports

Afghanistan's security forces have detained 16 members of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), including a group of recruiters who operated on social networks, local media reported on Thursday citing authorities

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) Afghanistan's security forces have detained 16 members of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), including a group of recruiters who operated on social networks, local media reported on Thursday citing authorities.

During a special operation in Kabul, six recruiters who have been using such networks as Facebook, Telegram, Twitter and Instagram, were detained and pleaded guilty in creating fake accounts to attract new supporters for the terrorist group, according to the 1TV broadcaster.

Another 10 detainees were caught in the eastern province of Nangarhar. The suspects allegedly took part in killings and arms trafficking, the broadcaster reported.

Afghanistan is suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to the activity of the Taliban movement and the IS. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are currently conducting joint offensive operations to combat terrorism across the country, supported by the international NATO-founded coalition.
