WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano met to discuss promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the organization's verification role in Iran, State Department spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a press release.
"The Secretary reiterated US support for the work of the IAEA in strengthening nuclear nonproliferation and promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy, including the IAEA's critical verification role in Iran," Palladino said on Wednesday.
Pompeo and Amano met on Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO ministerial conference taking place in Washington this week.
Amano was at the United Nations in New York earlier this week where he briefed the UN Security Council on the Strengthening of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ahead of the 2020 Review Conference.
