KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd April, 2019) Ukraine will not attend the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Foreign Ministers Council session that will be held in Moscow on April 5, as the country has withdrawn from the CIS statutory bodies, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Ukraine will not participate in the event, since our state ceased its participation in the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth in accordance with the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council's decision 'On the suspension of certain international treaties concluded within the Commonwealth of Independent States for Ukraine,' dated May 2, 2018 and enacted by the president's decree No. 139, dated May 19, 2018," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said as quoted by the UNN agency.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree recalling Ukrainian representatives from all CIS constituent bodies in May 2018. Immediately afterward, Poroshenko said that Ukraine would withdraw from the CIS agreements if they did not comply with its national interests.

The CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting will mainly be about exchanging opinions on current international and regional issues. The meeting's agenda will include ten issues concerning the development of cooperation within the CIS.
