Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), stated that the efforts of the wise leadership, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, contributed to the prestigious scientific stature of the Fatima College of Health Sciences, a branch of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational education and Training, ACTVET, and the Institute of Applied Technology.
The college has many achievements, which include supplying the national health sector with hundreds of specialist healthcare staff every year, whose numbers have rapidly increased since its establishment in 2006, from around 100 graduates from its first batch to 928 for its last batch, or a 900 percent increase, which contributed to Emiratising this vital sector, she added.
Sheikha Fatima made this statement in her speech, which was given on her behalf by Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, during a celebration held at the college’s campus in Al Ain, as part of an open day organised by the college, under the theme, "We Give, We Care, We Are Tolerant."
The open day aims to highlight the college’s advantages and invite women and female high school students to join it, as well as to encourage individuals, especially women, to work in the national health sector, with the attendance of Daryl Cornish, Director of the College.
In her speech, Sheikha Fatima stressed that the increase in the number of students of the college reflects the success of the wise leadership in encouraging UAE citizens to work in the medical sector, which will create pride and confidence in the future, especially as the UAE’s nursing sector requires more national manpower.
She added that the county has provided opportunities for women to participate and work in all sectors, to achieve ongoing advancement and encourage women to work in the health sector. "I advise my daughters in the Fatima College of Health Sciences about the necessity of continuing to gain knowledge and skills and constantly conducting research and applying them while practising this noble profession. The college now has a leading role in developing educational programmes in several healthcare and rehabilitation specialisations," she further added.
She concluded her speech by thanking the wise leadership, the ACTVET, the Institute of Applied Technology, and everyone involved in the work of the college, as well as its professors and administrators while wishing them success and excellence.
During the open day, Dr. Al Shamsi inspected the college’s departments and met with its students, who specialise in nursing, pharmacy, x-ray, ambulance and emergency services, and physiotherapy.
