IMF Expects Slowdown in Economic Growth This Year - Lagarde

Most part of the global economy will face a slowdown in 2019, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd April, 2019) Most part of the global economy will face a slowdown in 2019, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said on Tuesday.

"For this year, we expect 70 percent of the global economy to experience a slowdown in growth," Lagarde said in remarks at the US Chamber of Commerce.

She noted that the global economy is now is at a "delicate moment" in which the economic climate is very "unsettled."

However, the IMF leader projected some some improvements later this year. "In fact, we expect some pickup in growth in the second half of 2019 and into 2020," she said.

Major downside risks threaten the global economy, including Brexit, high debts in some sectors and particular countries, trade tensions and disturbance in financial markets, Lagarde added.
