Incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will pay a visit to Germany prior to the second round of presidential election, local media reported on Tuesday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd April, 2019) Incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will pay a visit to Germany prior to the second round of presidential election, local media reported on Tuesday.

On Monday, Poroshenko's press service said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated him over the phone on entering the runoff.

According to the Levyy Bereg (LB.ua) media outlet, the Ukrainian leader's visit to Germany is currently being prepared.

Ukraine held the presidential election on Sunday. Zelenskiy has secured 30.23 percent of votes in the, while Poroshenko is ranking second with 15.92 percent, the country's Central Election Commission (CEC) said on Tuesday after 99.01 percent of the ballots were counted. According to the Ukrainian legislation, one has to gain over 50 percent of the votes in order to win the election. Thus, Zelenskiy and Poroshenko are likely to face each other in the runoff on April 21.

At the same time, the CEC has said that no serious violations were registered during the voting, while the Interior Ministry said it had recorded more than 2,600 reports about violations in the election process.

Moreover, Russian observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have been barred from monitoring the voting process by Kiev, which jeopardizes the legitimacy of the future results of the vote, according to Moscow.

In addition, Kiev did not organize polling places either in those parts of the eastern Donbas region that are not controlled by Kiev, or in Russia, where the largest diaspora of the Ukrainian people lives, which has affected up to 10 million eligible Ukrainian voters.
