ICAO, GCAA host workshops at Blockchain Aviation Summit

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 02nd Apr, 2019) The International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO, and the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA, have kicked-off workshops as part of the upcoming Blockchain Aviation Summit and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

The inaugural summit, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, will officially start on 3rd April, with the participation of over 800 individuals from 90 countries.

The workshops aim to engage participants in knowledge exchange and utilising the expertise of leading academic and executives on blockchain technology and how it disrupts the travel and transport sector. Topics also included strengthening the capabilities of countries in terms of developing oversight capacities, the needs of adopting blockchain in aviation, and the challenges of adopting this technology.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, said, "Through this event, ICAO and the GCAA aim at accelerating the adoption of Blockchain through the entire aviation eco-system from aircrafts and other assets financing, to business operations including passenger experience, to contracts management, records keeping and security."

The inaugural summit is of strategic importance as it serves as a platform to promote global collaboration to unlock the potential of Blockchain technology to sustain a safe, secure and efficient civil aviation system. The 2019 event themed, 'Blockchain: Unlock the potential', will offer the international aviation community the necessary awareness joined with experience about the Blockchain technology.
