Russian Companies May Boost Presence in UK Market After Brexit - Trade Representative

The United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union may create opportunities for Russian businesses in the UK market, particularly in the high-tech and medical sectors, as London is likely to expand its trade relations with non-EU countries in the post-Brexit era, Russian Trade Representative in the United Kingdom Boris Abramov told Sputnik

LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd April, 2019) The United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union may create opportunities for Russian businesses in the UK market, particularly in the high-tech and medical sectors, as London is likely to expand its trade relations with non-EU countries in the post-Brexit era, Russian Trade Representative in the United Kingdom Boris Abramov told Sputnik.

"There are good opportunities in the sphere of high technology, high-tech equipment ... There is also common ground in such areas as medicine, prosthetics, the creation of computer-aided prosthetics and so on," Abramov said in an interview.

The representative added that Russia would be defending its national interests when negotiating with the United Kingdom on potential deals and trying to get the most favorable conditions.

The future of Brexit is uncertain at the moment since UK parliament has repeatedly rejected the divorce deal negotiated by the government and Brussels, and has failed to agree on any other arrangements, leading to the Brexit deadline being delayed past March 29.

The lawmakers are now holding a series of indicative votes on several Brexit options in a bid to agree on what path the country should follow. London has only until April 12 to present the European Union with its Brexit plan, or it risks leaving with no deal that very day.
