WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd April, 2019) US-led coalition leadership refuses to discuss cooperation with Russia and Syria to shut down the Rukban camp for refugees, the Combined Joint Task Force for Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) Media Ops team told Sputnik.
The joint Russia-Syria coordination center on refugees last week asked US troop leadership in the At Tanf zone to arrive on April 2 to Jleb crossing point to discuss joint steps for Rukban camp dismantlement.
"All parties previously agreed to support diplomatic decisions regarding the administration or logistics of the camp itself," CJTF-OIR said on Monday. "Any effort[s] to circumvent that process are at best inappropriate and at worst counter-productive."
The CJTF-OIR media team also said the coalition is always ready to support UN initiatives to improve the quality of life at the Rukban camp and supports the safe, voluntary return of refugees.
The Rukban refugee camp is part of the US-controlled zone around its base in At-Tanf. The Russia-Syria coordination center on refugee repatriation has repeatedly blamed the United States for blocking access to the camp.
