Russia to Launch First Tunisian Satellite in 2020 - Roscosmos Subsidiary

Russia is due to launch the first Tunisian satellite, dubbed Challenge ONE, aboard Russian-made Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket in 2020, a press release from GK Launch Services, a company established by Glavkosmos which is a subsidiary of Roscosmos state space corporation, said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) Russia is due to launch the first Tunisian satellite, dubbed Challenge ONE, aboard Russian-made Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket in 2020, a press release from GK Launch Services, a company established by Glavkosmos which is a subsidiary of Roscosmos state space corporation, said on Monday.

"[Tunisian] TELNET Group and GK Launch Services signed a contract for the launch of the first Tunisian Challenge ONE satellite aboard the Russian Soyuz-2.1a integrated with the Fregat upper stage in 2020," GK Launch Services, an operator of Soyuz-2 commercial launches, stated.

According to GK Launch Services, the Tunisian satellite is "a scientific research and innovation project" which offers new IT concepts and their practical applications. The results of Challenge ONE work "will be used for building a constellation" of 30 satellites, the statement concludes.

The signing ceremony, chaired by CEOs of TELNET Group and GK Launch Services Mohamed Frikha and Alexander Serkn respectively, was held at the Sfax Digital Research Center in the Tunisian capital of Tunis.
