MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to visit Cyprus in the second half of this year at the invitation of the island nation's foreign ministry, Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides told Sputnik.
"I am particularly pleased that Mr. Lavrov has accepted the invitation I extended to him to visit Cyprus and I look forward to welcoming him in Nicosia during the second half of 2019," Christodoulides said.
The foreign ministers last met in Moscow in February.
The two countries' economic and political relationship has been actively developing, even in the face of the European Union's sanctions on Russia over the country's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis. Cyprus has repeatedly spoken out against the sanctions, saying that such measures negatively impact its economy.
