MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) A Malaysian court sentenced on Monday Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong, who was accused of murdering Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, to three years and four months imprisonment, according to media reports.

The verdict was announced after Malaysia's prosecutors decided to drop the murder charge against the Vietnamese citizen, who is now accused of "voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means," the Xinhua news agency reported.

If Huong had been found guilty of a deliberate murder, she could have faced a death penalty in accordance with the Malaysian legislation.

Kim Jong Nam was killed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February 2017 with the help of what investigators believed to be a VX nerve agent. While the prosecution initially insisted that the two women - Doan Thi Huong and Siti Aisyah - were well-trained assassins and knowingly sprayed the toxic agent into Kim's face, the women pleaded not guilty and said that they believed they were a part of a prank for a reality tv show when they attacked Kim.

On March 11, Aisyah was released after a court dropped charges against her.
