TUNIS, (Pakistan Point News - 01st Apr, 2019) The Arab League has reaffirmed UAE's sovereignty over its three islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa, and reiterated its support for all peaceful means and measures taken by the UAE to restore its sovereignty over the occupied islands.

This came at the Tunis Declaration, issued by the 30th Arab League Summit that concluded today in the Tunisian capital, where the Arab leaders underlined the centrality of the Palestinian cause.

Expressing categorical rejection of the US recognition of Israel’s control over the Golan Heights, the Arab leaders noted the necessity of reaching a political settlement to the crisis in Syria and enabling the country to restore its normal status within the Arab region.

The Arab heads of state accentuated their condemnation of targeting Saudi territories by ballistic missiles, reiterating their determination to ensure the security and safety of the Kingdom, being fundamental to the stability of the Gulf region, in particular, and the entire Arab nation in general.

In this respect, they underlined the principle of good neighbourliness to be the basis on which Arab relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran should be founded on, demanding Tehran to stop meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries and to stop all the practices conducive to undermining confidence-building measures in the region.

The Arab Leaders underscored the continuity of Arab efforts to restore legitimacy in Yemen and put an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people. They reiterated the necessity of ensuring Houthi militias' compliance with the Stockholm ceasefire agreement brokered by the UN in December 2018, emphasising the importance of intensifying efforts to deploy more humanitarian aid to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Declaration underlined continued efforts to re-launch serious and effective Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations that will end the political stalemate resulting from the intransigence of Israeli positions, affirming that the conflict could be ended through a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 July 1967 with East Al-Quds as its capital.

"The achievement of peace, stability and security in the middle East region hinges upon reaching a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause and the entire Arab-Israeli conflict," the declaration affirmed.

The Arab leaders noted the importance of the historical Hashemite Custodianship undertaken by King Abdullah of Jordan over Islamic and Christian holy sites in East Jerusalem.

They decried the so called 'Jewish nation-state law' as yet a new incarnation of the racist practices meant to deny the Palestinian people their right to self-determination and Statehood.

The Arab leaders termed as unacceptable the current status of the Arab region which they said has turned to be a hub for terrorist organisations that are posing grave threats to the stability and developmental efforts ongoing in the Arab nations.

They stressed that a pan-Arab reconciliation is a must to restore stability and protect the region against foreign interferences.

The Arab Leaders reiterated their keenness to preserve Libya's territorial integrity, renewing their rejection of all military solutions to the crisis there and as well as of any interferences in the internal affairs of Libya.

They hailed the progress achieved by Iraq in uprooting the scourge of terrorist organisations, reiterating their keenness to maintain the territorial integrity of the country and their support for all reconstruction efforts made to restore normalcy to the liberated regions.

The Arab heads of state voiced full support for inter-faith dialogue and the promotion of values of tolerance and respect of others in a bid to fight fanaticism and extremism.

They, in this respect, acclaimed the historic meeting between Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al Azhar hosted by the UAE in February.

The Arab leaders voiced full support for the Sudanese government in its efforts to establish peace and development and protect its national sovereignty, welcoming the improvement achieved with regards to the security situation in Darfur.

They expressed support for the Sudanese President's initiative to achieve Arab food security, renewing their call to remove Sudan from the US list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

They underscored the importance of underpinning comprehensive development efforts in the region in order to safeguard the Arab world against terrorism and extremism.

The Declaration hailed the first Euro-Arab Summit held in Sharm El Sheikh in February, and said the Arab leaders are looking forward to the 5th Afro-Arab Summit to be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2019 as well as to the Summit of South American-Arab Countries, the soonest possible.

They expressed support for the efforts made by Somali leaders to fight terrorism and establish peace. They also hailed the recent presidential elections in Comoros.
