UAE Food Security Plans Presented At Global Food Summit

MUNICH, (Pakistan Point News - 31st Mar, 2019) Mariam Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Food Security, participated in the Global Food Summit 2019 in Munich, Germany, in the presence of a large number of researchers, private sector experts, and decision-makers from around the world.

Almheiri delivered the conference’s keynote speech about sustainable food security and highlighted the UAE’s efforts to achieve food security as part of its development goals, through a strategy aimed to develop relevant technologies and achieve food security based on innovation. She added that realising these goals requires the joint efforts of the government, the private sectors, and local and international research institutions.

During her visit to Munich, Almheiri met with Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, Michaela Kaniber, to discuss their overall cooperation related to food.

She also toured, with Abdulbaset Mohammed Abdullah Al Marzooqi, UAE Consul-General in Munich, the BayWa Group, a leading company in the field of modern agricultural technology, to review key futures and applied research projects in Germany.

Almheiri also visited the Weihenstephan College, which specialises in applied agricultural research, where a group of researchers presented a summary of their future research, which included innovative food production solutions, such as digital agriculture, agricultural water, probiotics, genetically modified food, edible insects, synthetic meat and 3-D printed foods. They also discussed ways of supporting farmers, and how to promote farming activities among the youth.
