Blockchain Aviation Summit to promote industry practices, tech developments

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 31st Mar, 2019) Sharing best practices throughout the aviation industry using Blockchain technology will be the focus of a gathering in Abu Dhabi beginning this week.

The inaugural ICAO Blockchain Summit and Exhibition will kick-off in the nation's capital on Tuesday, with over 800 individuals from 90 countries taking part in the event.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the event is co-organised by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA, and the International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO, taking place from 2nd-4th April 2019.

The gathering serves as a platform to promote global collaboration to unlock the potential of Blockchain technology to ensure a safe, secure and efficient civil aviation system. The 2019 event, entitled, 'Blockchain: Unlock the Potential', will offer the international aviation community information and experience about Blockchain technology.

Commenting on the inaugural event taking place in Abu Dhabi, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA board of Directors, said, "The UAE is continuing its leading role in the field of innovation, with its sustained performance in this year’s Global Innovation Index. The UAE is the top ranking country in the Arab world, according to the Global Innovation Index. We are honoured that ICAO has selected the UAE as the host nation of the first ICAO Blockchain Aviation Summit and Exhibition."

ICAO and GCAA aim, through the summit and exhibition, to accelerate the adoption of Blockchain through the entire aviation ecosystem from aircrafts and other assets such as financing to business operations, including passenger experience, to contracts management, record keeping and security.

For his part, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, said, "Selecting the UAE is a testament to our leadership’s continuing efforts towards investing in new technologies across different domains including the aviation sector and in maintaining strong partnerships between the government and the private sector, and the continuous endeavours in exploring methods to improve aviation business practices in a dynamic and thriving environment."
