A court in Australia sentenced on Friday a resident of Sydney to 18 years in jail over his plans to carry out a terror attack on behalf of the Islamic State terror group (IS, outlawed in Russia), local media reported

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th March, 2019) A court in Australia sentenced on Friday a resident of Sydney to 18 years in jail over his plans to carry out a terror attack on behalf of the Islamic State terror group (IS, outlawed in Russia), local media reported.

Omarjan Azari, 26, planned to behead up to seven random residents of Australia a month, according to the ABC news media outlet. The instruction to murder people was reportedly received from a senior IS member.

Last year, Azari was found guilty of two terrorism-related offenses, including IS financing.

The jailed man will be eligible for parole in 2028.

IS is an international terror organization that is actively disseminating ideas of radical islam across the world. The group seized huge territories in Syria and Iraq in 2014, which were later retaken by the countries' governments. The organization has also claimed responsibility for a number of terror attacks globally.
