Debris of Downed Indian Satellite Pose Risks to Progress MS-11 Launch - Expert

The fragments of the Indian satellite, which was downed by New Delhi on Wednesday during anti-satellite missile tests, do not threaten the International Space Station (ISS), but pose risks to the launch of the Progress MS-11 space freighter, the leading expert of the Russian Space Research Institute, Nathan Eismont, told Sputnik Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th March, 2019) The fragments of the Indian satellite, which was downed by New Delhi on Wednesday during anti-satellite missile tests, do not threaten the International Space Station (ISS), but pose risks to the launch of the Progress MS-11 space freighter, the leading expert of the Russian Space Research Institute, Nathan Eismont, told Sputnik Thursday.

The launch of Progress MS-11 is planned for April 4.

"Any spacecraft goes through the entire sequence of altitudes at the launch. In this case, the probability is not zero. Collision is possible, including for the Progress," the expert said, adding that the debris were likely to remain at the altitude of up to 187 miles for a period of six months, posing danger to all launches.
