UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th March, 2019) The UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the US decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, France's Ambassador to the United Nations Francois Delattre told reporters on Wednesday."In response to the request that was addressed to us to hold an urgent public meeting of the [UN] Security Council on the situation in the Golan Heights, we have just proposed to our Security Council partners, as the president of the Council, to transform the consultations on the UNDOF [United Nations Disengagement Observer Force] this afternoon into a public session of the Security Council on the situation in the middle East that will cover both, the UNDOF and the situation in the Golan Heights," Delattre said.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order formally recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights after he held a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
