Venezuelan PDVSA Enacts Fuel Distribution Plan to Support Healthcare System After Blackout

Venezuela's state-run PDVSA oil company said on Wednesday it had launched a special fuel distribution plan to support the functioning of the country's healthcare system following a major power blackout

CARACAS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th March, 2019) Venezuela's state-run PDVSA oil company said on Wednesday it had launched a special fuel distribution plan to support the functioning of the country's healthcare system following a major power blackout.

The Venezuelan Interior Ministry told Sputnik on Tuesday that at least 18 out of Venezuela's 23 states and the capital district of Caracas were facing either complete or partial power outages as a result of a second major blackout that had hit the country in the past 24 hours.

"PDVSA has activated a special fuel distribution plan to maintain the functioning of the national health system for the benefit of the Venezuelan people," the company said on Twitter.

PDVSA also stressed that the employees of the Venezuelan oil sector "reject terrorist attacks on facilities that produce energy" to ensure the "normal operation of the national economy" of Venezuela.

"We call on the people of the country to condemn any actions against the peace and security of our fellow citizens," the statement read.

The current events follow the worst power outage in Venezuelan history that hit the country earlier in March, when as many as 20 states were left without power. Venezuela's national electricity supplier, Corpoelec, said that the incident had been caused by an act of "sabotage" at the Guri plant, which generates electricity for nearly all of the country.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday the ongoing blackouts proved that attempts to destabilize situation in the country continued. Caracas also accused Washington, which supports the country's opposition seeking to oust Maduro from power, of being behind the attack on the power plant earlier in March. The United States has, in turn, refuted the accusations.
