UEFA President Slams Racist Behavior By Montenegro's Supporters During Game With England

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th March, 2019) President of Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Ceferin condemned on Tuesday supporters of Montenegro's team for their racist behavior directed against players of England's team during the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Monday.

Earlier on Tuesday, UEFA launched disciplinary proceedings against Montenegro in connection with the incident.

"It is a disaster ... I cannot say anymore because it is now a matter for our disciplinary committee, but I cannot believe these people still exist," Ceferin told reporters at the European Club Association's general assembly in Amsterdam, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph newspaper.

England's Football Association (FA) has also decried the mistreatment of England's players at the match.

"On Monday evening, England players were subjected to abhorrent racist chanting while playing in a UEFA EURO 2020 qualifier in Montenegro. This is unacceptable at any level of the game and we welcome UEFA's decision today to take disciplinary action," the FA spokesperson wrote on Twitter.

During the second half of the match, played in the Montenegrin capital, supporters of the Montenegrin national football team started singing racist chants. Gareth Southgate, the manager of the English national team, has called on UEFA to impose sanctions against Montenegro over the case. Meanwhile, the head coach of the Montenegrin national team has insisted that he had not heard any racist chants at all.
