MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) The 16th meeting of the Russian-Malaysian intergovernmental joint commission on defense, defense technology and defense industry cooperation is expected to take place in early April, the press service of the chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Russian parliament's upper chamber, Viktor Bondarev, said on Friday.On Thursday, Bondarev completed his three-day visit to Malaysia at the helm of the Defense and Security Committee delegation.
"The visit of the Federation Council [Russian parliament's upper chamber] delegation to the friendly Southeast Asian country precedes another, 16th meeting of the Russian-Malaysian intergovernmental joint commission on cooperation in defense, defense technology and defense industry, which is scheduled [to take place] in the first 10 days of April 2019," the press service said.
The chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, in turn, noted the extent of the Russian-Malaysian defense cooperation.
"Russia supplies Malaysia with Russian-made weapons, military equipment, spare parts and components; assists in the maintenance, repair and modernization of weapons in service in Malaysia. Our specialists provide Malaysian military personnel with advisory assistance in operating modern weapons and military equipment," Bondarev was quoted as saying by the press service.
The intergovernmental commission was established in 1999 as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Russia and Malaysia.
