Shipping Industry Must Take Additional Measures To Stop North Korea - Bolton

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) The international maritime community should take additional measures to stop North Korea's deceptive shipping practices after two Chinese shipping companies were designated for helping Pyongyang evade sanctions, National Security Advisor John Bolton said in a statement on Thursday.

"[T]he maritime industry must do more to stop North Korea's illicit shipping practices. Everyone should take notice and review their own activities to ensure they are not involved in North Korea's sanctions evasion," Bolton said via Twitter.

Bolton's call to action came after the US Department of the Treasury earlier on Thursday designated Chinese shipping companies Dalian Haibo International Freight and Liaoning Danxing International for violating international and US sanctions imposed on Pyongyang.

On February 27, US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met in Hanoi, Vietnam, for a second bilateral summit. Trump walked away from the talks, saying that Kim demanded a full removal of sanctions against North Korea without pledging to denuclearize.
