MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Afghan security officers have detained six members of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), who planned to conduct attacks in the country's capital of Kabul during the celebrations of Nowruz, the holiday marking the vernal equinox, 1TV broadcaster reported on Thursday, citing a statement by the National Directorate of Security.

Two out of six detained individuals planned suicide attacks, the broadcaster added.

At least six people were killed and 23 others injured as a result of a rocket strike that hit Kabul earlier in the day, when people were gathering in the city for celebrations of Nowruz, which is also known as the Persian New Year.
