Punjab Assembly resolution demands withdrawal of taxes from cosmetics materials

A resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday demanded from the government to withdraw additional taxes' from raw materials used in the local cosmetics industry

LAHORE (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 19th March, 2019) A resolution in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday demanded from the government to withdraw additional taxes' from raw materials used in the local cosmetics industry.The resolution against taxes on local cosmetics industry was submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Salma Saadia Taimoor during a session in Lahore.The summary of the motion read that cosmetics manufacturers were anxious about rise in the government taxes.

"The government has raised taxes on raw materials of local cosmetics," it said adding that cosmetics manufacturers were being harassed on failing to pay the new taxes.It said production cost of cosmetics had climbed with increase in taxes.On January 5, an adjournment motion was submitted in the Punjab Assembly over use of hazardous chemicals in cosmetics items. "Use of harmful chemicals in the fairness creams, which are easily available in the market, causing skin problems and cancer among women," read the adjournment motion tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's MPA, Musarat Jamsheed.

There has been a sharp increase in the number of skin damage cases due to use of instant fairness creams and other cosmetics products in the province, the motion had read.The motion had further said, more than 15,000 products of fairness creams, shampoos were easily available in the market, without brand test by the concerned authorities.
