Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 18th March, 2019) A resolution demanding ‘Daughter of Pakistan’ title for Dr Aafia Siddiqui has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly.

The resolution has been submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Seemabia Bukhari.

The resolution demanded some major steps to be taken at diplomatic level for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

The resolution demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan to give the title of ‘Daughter of Pakistan’ to Dr Aafia.

Aafia Siddiqui was indicted by a New York Federal district court in September, 2008 on charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from an incident in an interview with US authorities in Ghazni, charges which she denied.

After 18 months in detention, she was tried and convicted in early 2010 and sentenced to 86 years in prison.

There were media reports that Dr Aafia Siddiqui will soon return home which were further confirmed by Hamza Ali Abbasi who took to Twitter to hint about the development.

However, all such reports have turned out to be baseless.

According to urdu Point sources, these reports have been spread on purpose to play with the emotions of people.

Moreover, none of the government officials issued a statement to confirm the development.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also denied all such reports at a press conference on Saturday.

When asked about the reports of Dr Aafia Siddiqui being repatriated, the foreign minister said although social media has many benefits, it spreads news contrary to reality as well.

Those wanting the good of our daughter should better remain silent on such sensitive information, he added.

Qureshi said that the government is trying hard to get Dr Aafia back home and prayed that Allah succeed them in their efforts.
