Moscow Hopes Pyongyang, Seoul to Keep Crisis Settlement Efforts Strong- Foreign Ministry

Russia hopes that the parties to nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula will refrain from letting their crisis settlement efforts loose, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) Russia hopes that the parties to nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula will refrain from letting their crisis settlement efforts loose, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Friday.

"We firmly hope that our Korean partners will not weaken efforts aimed at solving the problems existing in the subregion through negotiations," Morgulov said at a reception in the North Korean Embassy in Russia.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula indeed saw a significant improvement last year, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un boosting ties with his South Korean counterpart and holding a historic summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June.

The second summit between Trump and Kim concluded with no agreement signed in the Vietnamese capital in February. Trump walked away from the talks, saying that Kim demanded full sanctions removal, while not pledging to denuclearize exactly the territories that Washington wanted.
