The United States hopes to continue its conversations with North Korea on denuclearization, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) The United States hopes to continue its conversations with North Korea on denuclearization, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday."We are hopeful that we can continue to have negotiations," Pompeo told reporters when asked to comment on reports that North Korea could suspend the talks.
Pompeo noted that last year in Singapore, US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un embarked on a course which led to an improvement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
He added that the Trump administration wants to continue these conversations.
The second summit between Trump and Kim in Hanoi in February concluded with no agreement. Trump walked away from the talks, saying that Kim had demanded full sanctions removal, while not pledging to denuclearize exactly the territories that Washington wanted.
At their first summit in Singapore last June, Trump and Kim expressed their commitment to denuclearization.
