EU Commission Vice Chair Urges UK to 'Get Its Act Together' Amid Brexit Uncertainty

EU Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans has called on the United Kingdom to "get its act together" amid the ongoing uncertainty about the conditions and dates of Brexit

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th March, 2019) EU Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans has called on the United Kingdom to "get its act together" amid the ongoing uncertainty about the conditions and dates of Brexit.

On Wednesday, UK lawmakers rejected the idea of leaving the European Union without a withdrawal agreement after voting down the updated Brexit deal that Prime Minister Theresa May negotiated with President of the European Council Donald Tusk in Brussels. The vote on the extension of the Brexit deadline will take place on Thursday evening.

UK Parliament Speaker John Bercow said Wednesday that the government will propose on Thursday to postpone Brexit until June 30 if the parliament approves the deal with the European Union by March 20,

"All member states are watching London and thinking what do they want ... so they need to sort themselves out. Nobody wants a no deal Brexit but just by saying ... doesn't mean it's not going to happen. There might be a no deal Brexit even if they don't want it," Timmermans told Sky news broadcaster urging London to "get its act together."

Initially it was planned that the United Kingdom will leave the bloc on March 29. The Brexit-focused meeting of the European Council is scheduled to take place on March 21-22.

Earlier in the day, Tusk said that he plans to urge EU member states to allow a long Brexit delay if London considers its necessary for reaching a consensus.
