Government fails to provide better transport facilities to commuters

The past and the present government made commitments to address the issue but did not deliver

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 13th March, 2019) The miseries of thousands of daily commuters of the provincial metropolitan continue as the government failed to provide affordable and efficient public transport to them.

The previous government completed multi-billion metro bus tracks at Ferozpur Road from Shahdrah to Gajurmata, it launched Speedo Bus project but still it failed to end the transport woes.

The Lahore Transport Company, the city’s public transport regulator, has also failed to address the issue despite long years of its establishment.

Lahore, said a Transport Department official, needs around 2,000 buses to meet the demand of daily commuters. Around 50 percent transport plying at different routes was either in a dilapidated condition or it operates on some unnecessary routes, he added.

“This is not the issue of Lahore but common man in Punjab’s all big city face the same problem” he added. The official said the government failed to provide better transport facilities in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, and Gujranwala.

On the other side, the present government failed to complete the Orange Line Train Project which some consider would bring a solution to Lahore’s transport sector.

Commuters urged the government to make an immediate step to resolve the problems of the commuters and provide them better transport facilities.
