ISLAMABAD (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 13th March, 2019) The Australian High Commission (AHC) and the Kinnaird College for Women with the support of the Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) hosted the Girls Cricket Cup in Lahore.The AHC-Kinnaird Girls Cup 2019 involved teams from six schools and sports institutes: Government Shuhda-e APS Memorial Girls High school Model Town, Government Central Model School Gulberg, The City School Shalimar Campus, Kinnaird Cricket, Unique Cricket and Galaxy Sports academies for under privileged girls.

Australias High Commissioner to Pakistan, Margaret Adamson congratulated the schools on their participation and welcomed the support of the Kinnaird College and PCB for the Girls Cricket Cup.Sharing a passion with Pakistan for cricket, the Australian High Commission was pleased to join with the Kinnaird College for Women and PCB to host this initiative to empower girls through cricket and promote gender equality through sport, Ms Adamson said.

A three-day coaching clinic by first class cricket coaches kicked off on International Womens Day.We were particularly pleased to have the participation of first class players who helped to build confidence, foster team spirit and encourage the girls to push beyond the boundaries, the High Commissioner said.Sport can be a force to amplify the voices of women and girls and break down gender barriers and stereotypes. Every time girls clear a hurdle or kick a ball, they demonstrate not only physical strength, but also their leadership and strategic thinking. Through sport women and girls are able to realize their individual and collective power to strive for gender equality, she added. NNI
