DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2019) Dubai Press Club, together with Sky news Arabia TV, hosted a training workshop for UAE-based business journalists focusing on the topic of money markets.

The workshop, supported by DP World, falls under the ongoing ‘Advanced Economic Journalism’ training programme, which kicked off in October 2018 with the aim of enhancing the skills and knowledge of local journalists in business reporting and introducing them to the best practices in financial markets, both locally and globally.

A large part of the session, which was held at DPC, covered the history of money and its evolution through different times - from the time it took the form of physical commodities, to paper Currency, and now digital assets - enabling participants to gain a better understanding of the importance of money markets.

Commenting on the occasion, Hessa Kalantar, Senior Manager, Media Content Development at Dubai Press Club, highlighted the important role the media plays in helping people understand economic indicators and its direct impact on various political, cultural and social levels.

"We launched the Advanced Economic Journalism programme in order to help journalists understand and interpret future indicators. We believe that training journalists to master business reporting is crucial to the development of the economy," she said.

Kalantar added that the Dubai Press Club is always keen to enhance and refine the skills of media professionals in covering economic events, writing in-depth reports and interpreting economic events and developments.

A group of journalists from various media organisations attended the session, which was led by Lubna Bouza, Chief Editor, Business at Sky News Arabia tv and presenter of the show 'Alam Al Taqa' and Amro Zakaria Abdu, Financial Economist and co-founder of Market Trader academy USA.

Lubna Bouza highlighted how political events are linked to the changes in the economy. "Any changes in the financial markets can help predict what is going to happen in the future. Raising people’s interest in economic affairs and interpreting indicators that will impact people’s lives is a duty and responsibility of reporters," she said.

Bouza added that Sky News Arabia was proud to be part of the fruitful efforts by DPC, and that such partnerships are essential in the development of the media industry.

Meanwhile, Amro Zakaria Abdu said it was crucial for individuals, companies and governments to work towards spreading an understanding of the financial culture and the changes in the economy. "The Economic press has a huge role in supporting this objective as the world keeps evolving and changing," he said, while praising Dubai Press Club for organising the programme, which seeks to raise the financial literacy among reporters.

The ‘Advanced Economic Journalism’ programme addresses a comprehensive range of professional areas and is aimed at helping economic journalists polish their skills and keep abreast of changes and economic trends. It features hands-on training sessions, interactive workshops and assessments.
