Over 120 People Detained in Pakistan as Part of Anti-Terrorist Action Plan - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th March, 2019) A total of 121 people have been taken into preventive detention by the Pakistani security forces under the National Action Plan (NAP) aimed at cracking down on the terrorist threat in the country, media reported on Thursday, citing the Pakistani Interior Ministry.

As part of the anti-terrorist plan, provincial authorities have also taken control over 34 schools and colleges along with over 180 Muslim educational institutions and almost 170 medical facilities, the Geo tv channel reported.

On Tuesday, the ministry also announced the preventive detention of Mufti Abdul Rauf, the brother of the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammad extremist Islamist group, which has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on an Indian paramilitary convoy in February.

After the attack, New Delhi accused Islamabad of harboring the terrorists and carried out air strikes against the militants' camp on the Pakistani-controlled part of the disputed Kashmir region, which led to a dangerous escalation in the neighbors' already tense relations.

NAP was created by the Pakistani National Counter Terrorism Authority and the Interior Ministry in 2014 following one the deadliest school shootings ever, which was perpetrated by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan terrorist group in the northwest of the country that same year and claimed the lives of over 140 people, mostly children.

The plan includes measures aimed at cutting terrorists' financing chains, introducing reforms in the criminal justice system and strengthening law enforcement agencies.
