MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th March, 2019) US White House National Security Adviser John Bolton said that any attempts to prevent opposition leader Juan Guaido's safe return to Venezuela would meet a "strong and significant response" from Washington and the international community.
"Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaido has announced his planned return to Venezuela. Any threats or acts against his safe return will be met with a strong and significant response from the United States and the international community," Bolton wrote on Twitter on Sunday.
US-backed Guaido, who proclaimed himself Venezuelan interim president in January, arrived in neighboring Colombia on February 22, in defiance of the travel ban imposed on him by the Venezuelan Supreme Court as part of an ongoing investigation.
After unsuccessful attempts to force US-sponsored humanitarian aid, blocked by Caracas over concerns that it might be a ploy to overthrow the legitimate government, into Venezuela from the neighboring country, the opposition leader announced that he planned to return home despite the risk of being arrested for the violation of the travel ban.
