The UAE is efficiently involved in the Global Alliance against Terrorism and rightfully realises the central importance of international cooperation to counter terrorism rhetoric and accelerate the exchange of information and best practices between world peoples towards this end, said a UAE official before the 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Geneva

GENEVA, (Pakistan Point News - 02nd Mar, 2019) The UAE is efficiently involved in the Global Alliance against Terrorism and rightfully realises the central importance of international cooperation to counter terrorism rhetoric and accelerate the exchange of information and best practices between world peoples towards this end, said a UAE official before the 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Geneva.

Mohamed Saleh Al Shamsi, Second Secretary of the UAE Permanent Mission to the UN, made the statements at a clustered interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Al Shamsi added that terrorism poses a sinister threat to global stability, supremacy of the law, democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms in a way that entails development of more legally binding agreements at the national level while intensifying international efforts to fight the manifestations of this evil phenomenon and curtail its proliferation through international cooperation at the international and regional levels.

He underlined the notable achievements made by the UAE by both coming aboard international and regional counterterrorism pacts and conventions, and developing local counterterrorism laws, including the "UAE Anti-Discrimination Law" and the Federal Law No. 7 of October 2013 on establishing Hedayah, the first-ever International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE).

"The UAE is efficiently involved in the Global Alliance against Terrorism and rightfully realises the central importance of international cooperation to counter terrorism rhetoric and accelerate the exchange of information and best practices between world peoples to improve counterterrorism efforts," he added.

He highlighted the International Conference for the Criminalisation of Cyber Terrorism, which resulted in the Abu Dhabi Declaration that outlined the need for more work towards forging a legally binding agreement between all countries to fight cybercrime and cyber terrorism.

The UNHRC 40th session is running from 25 February and 22 March 2019, at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland.
